Biography: Dr.Xia obtained his Master and Doctoral Degrees from Tsinghua University in 1981 and 1984, respectively. In 1987, he went to University of Alberta, Canada, starting from Post Doctoral Fellow and Senior Research Associate, and then became Assistant, Associate and Full Professor.

Dr.Xia’s research interests cover a wide range in solid and applied mechanics and material engineering. The main research areas are experimental characterization and theoretical prediction of mechanical properties of materials, especially under multiaxial loading conditions,development of constitutive models for different types of materials(plasticity, viscoelasticity, viscoplasticity); study of mechanisms and modeling of damages, fatigue life prediction for engineering materials, etc.The materials studied include metals and alloys, polymers, metal matrixcomposites and fiber reinforced polymeric composites. Dr. Xia has published about 200 papers in referred journals and international conference proceedings.He also owned or co-owned two patents and two software copyrights.
